Northwest Career & Technical Academy (NCTA)

The Northwest Career & Technical Academy (NCTA) provides classes through a consortium of school districts and Skagit Valley College. NCTA offers hands-on professional training in many fields. Please see the following pages for programs and descriptions. The Academy offers internships, job shadows, field studies and clinical experiences in addition to classroom time.

Northwest Career & Technical Academy (NCTA) ofrece clases a través de un consorcio de distritos escolares y de Skagit Valley Colegio. NCTA ofrece una formación práctica profesional en muchas áreas. La Academia ofrece puestos de internados, sombras de trabajo, estudios de campo y experiencias clínicas, además de tiempo de clase.

The main campus is located adjacent to the Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon. The Aerospace Manufacturing and Marine Services programs are in Anacortes. The Automotive program is at Sedro-Woolley High School.

Students must be enrolled as a junior or a senior at B-EHS or B-E North, and should be committed to good attendance and thorough work in the program chosen.

Programs last one school year, and will be offered 8am-10:30am (Aerospace Manufacturing and Marine Services must be during this time) or 11:30am-2pm for 1.5 high school credits per semester. Students take 2 classes each day at B-E and go to a NCTA program the other half of their school day, with transportation provided to and from Mt. Vernon programs, and shared transportation with Sedro Woolley for Aerospace and Marine programs in Anacortes. Students are responsible for their own transportation to the Automotive site. Students are responsible for keeping up with their Advisory class, even if they are without the benefit of attending.

Programas son de año escolar, y se ofrecerá de 8am-10:30am (Fabricación Aeroespacial, servicios marina) o 11:30 am-1:55pm (todos los otros programas) para 1.5 créditos de preparatoria por semestre. Los estudiantes tomarán 4 clases en B-E y van a uno de los programas de NCTA la otra mitad del día escolar, con el transporte para ir y venir por la tarde a los Programas en Mt. Vernon, y el transporte compartido con Sedro Woolley para los programas aeroespaciales y tecnología marina en Anacortes. Los estudiantes son responsables de mantenerse al tanto con su clase de Advisory, aunque estén sin el beneficio de asistir a su clase Advisory.

Students qualified for free/reduced lunch can tell the kitchen in the morning that they would like a sack lunch to go, and then eat it on the bus.

Yes, NCTA classes earn high school and college credit with most programs, though the specifics for some programs are pending. In addition, this program qualifies for one of the new 8 pathways that will meet state standards in Math and ELA. Please check with the NCTA for details and specifics about college credits.

Students are eligible for athletics and activities, and must comply with WIAA requirements and the B-EHS High School Activities Code, complete a contract with the athletic director, and be passing Advisory and 6 of 7 classes with a 2.0.

The NCTA follows the Mount Vernon School District’s schedule. Students are responsible for following that calendar for NCTA classes and the B-E calendar for B-E classes. There may be conflicts on late arrival days, snow days, vacation times, or testing days.

 Complete the attached Memorandum of Understanding and return it (with appropriate signatures and the student name clearly printed) to your school counselor, who will then help you with the application for NCTA programs.

We, the student and parent, understand the following conditions to be true if we choose a Northwest Career & Technical Academy (NCTA) program as an educational opportunity.

1. We understand that, in order to be eligible, the student must be a junior or senior, and have room in their schedule for two periods (1.5 credits) of NCTA classes both semesters. 

2. NCTA’s Technical Math can be used as an alternative to the state’s Algebra 2 requirement.

3. We understand that grades will be assigned by NCTA instructors as employees of the Mount Vernon School District, and put on the student transcript by B-EHS.

4. We understand that tuition is free, but that the student is responsible for any other fees.

5. We understand that in order to be successful, the student must be self-motivated, self-directed, and have good attendance at both B-EHS and NCTA.

6. We understand that parent contact regarding the student’s progress is not the same as at B-EHS. Parents may not receive progress reports and report cards on the same schedule as B-E, or have the same opportunity for parent/teacher conferences with NCTA classes.

7. We understand that attendance will be kept for NCTA classes, and it will be the responsibility of the parent to call both B-EHS and NCTA to report an absence.

8. We understand that NCTA programs are priority filled with high school students, but adult students (average age 28) may attend if there is space available.

9. We understand that students seeking a B-EHS diploma must meet all graduation requirements, including the state pathway and the Advisory program as the High School & Beyond Plan. Students will not be allowed to go through B-EHS commencement exercises unless they have met all B-EHS graduation requirements at the time of Senior Check-out.

10. We understand that students remain enrolled in their Advisory class and are responsible for each semester’s coursework.

11. We understand that NCTA programs are on Mount Vernon School District’s calendar, which may have different starting dates, ending dates, snow days and vacation times than B-EHS.

12. We understand that students will be responsible for being aware of any changes to the B-EHS schedule (assemblies, Advisory, half-days, late arrival days, etc.) and communicating those changes to their NCTA teachers. 

13. We understand that students can participate in athletics and activities at B-EHS and must take the equivalent of 7 B-E classes, and complete the WIAA/NCTA contract with the athletic director, and be passing PAWS/advisory to be eligible.

14. We understand programs last one school year, and will be offered 8am-10:30am or 11:25am-1:55pm for 1.5 high school credits per semester.

15.  We understand that transportation is provided to and from Mt. Vernon programs, is shared with Sedro Woolley School District for programs in Anacortes, and is not provided to Automotive. 

16. NCTA core credits are not currently acceptable by the NCAA Eligibility Center. Please work with your counselor if you might compete in Division I or II athletics.

It is through this Memorandum of Understanding that we, the student and parent, take full responsibility for the success of the student while attending the Northwest Career and Technical Academy.

Nosotros, el estudiante y los padres, entendemos las siguientes condiciones para ser verdad, si elegimos un programa de Northwest Career & Technical Academy (NCTA) como una oportunidad educativa.

1. Comprendemos que, con el fin de ser elegible, el estudiante debe ser por de menos 3er año  de Prepa o 4to año, y tener espacio en sus clases durante 1.5 créditos de clases NCTA en ambos semestres. Técnica de Matemáticas de NCTA se puede utilizar como una alternativa a Algebra 2 que es requerido por el Estado, excepto en los cursos Culinaria y Aeroespacial, que se anotado como una materia electiva.

2. Comprendemos que las calificaciones se asignan por instructores de NCTA como empleados del Distrito Escolar de Mount Vernon, y los anotaremos en la transcripción del estudiante por B-EHS.

3. Comprendemos que las clases son gratuitas, pero que el estudiante es responsable de cualquier cobro adicional.

4. Comprendemos que con el fin de tener éxito, el estudiante debe ser auto-motivados, auto-dirigido, y tienen una buena asistencia, tanto a B-EHS y NCTA.

5. Comprendemos que el contacto de los padres con respecto al progreso del estudiante no es el mismo que en B-EHS. Los padres no pueden recibir informes de progreso, boletas de calificaciones o tener las mismas oportunidades para conferencias de padres / maestros con clases de NCTA.

6. Comprendemos que se mantendrá lista en las clases de NCTA, y será la responsabilidad de los padres llamar tanto a B-EHS y NCTA para reportar una falta.

7. Comprendemos que los programas de NCTA son prioridad para los estudiantes de la preparatoria, pero estudiantes adultos (promedio 28 años de edad) podrán asistir si hay espacio disponible.

8. Comprendemos que los estudiantes que buscan un diploma de B-EHS deben cumplir con todos los requisitos de graduación, incluyendo los exámenes del estado y el programa de portafolio. Los estudiantes no se les permitirá participar en los ejercicios de graduación B-EHS a menos que hayan cumplido con todos los requisitos de graduación B-EHS en el momento de Salir de 4to/último año de preparatoria.

9. 10. Comprendemos que los estudiantes serán responsables de estar al tanto de cualquier cambio en el horario de B-EHS (asambleas, Advisory, medio días de clases, días de llegada tarde, etc.) y de comunicar esos cambios a sus maestros de NCTA.

11. Comprendemos que los estudiantes pueden participar en deportes y actividades en B-EHS y deben tener el equivalente de 7 clases en B-E, cumplir con todas las reglas de WIAA y B-EHS, completar el contrato WIAA / NCTA con el director deportivo, y se pasar Advisory para ser elegible.

12. Comprendemos que los programas son de un año escolar, y se ofrecen de 8am-10:30am 30am (Aeroespacial, Marina) o 11:30 am-2pm por 1.5 créditos de preparatoria por semestre.

13. Comprendemos que el transporte es proporcionado a y de los programas de la tarde en Mount Vernon, y es compartida con el Distrito Escolar de Sedro Woolley para los programas Aeroespacial y Marina en Anacortes.
