“THE REMEDIATION CLASS”
Learning in today’s virtual environment can have both pros and cons, with the cons being the most pressing issue for most of the families in Baldwin County. Many students are embarrassed to ask for help while in the virtual learning setting. The remediation class allows students to get their assignments completed in a safe risk-free learning environment. With so many other things going on in the students’ lives, they may sometimes miss some of the vital components of virtual instruction that is given in the course of the day. In the afternoon, my remediation class is geared towards helping the students that are struggling with keeping up with the demands of virtual learning, still be successful in their day-school courses. In the remediation class, the students and I study for upcoming quizzes and test together, make up missing assignments, and complete current assignments in order to ensure that the students, that may be struggling, are receiving the much-needed support to be successful in school.
Ms. Byrd’s online Academic and Enrichment Class
Students have the opportunity to be engaged in academic performances and have fun with it. Enrichment always students to improve vocabulary by utilizing various games. They will enhance critical thinking through participating in academic discussion and games. Gaming also allows students to improve in all content courses such as ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Also, they use proper etiquette when discussing and playing various interactive games. I’m really enjoying this process…Let’s Go 6th Grade Remote and BOA team!!!!!!
Mrs. Smith - Fitness and FUN
Students enjoy doing workouts at home with youtube videos. We also watch the BHS basketball team practice and try to do the drill they do as well. The students have a great time pointing out glows and grows. Some students may even want to become a coach one day. Fitness and fun is everyday from 5:30-6:30pm after we complete our homework(Which sometimes go over 5:30)
Mr. King
In my virtual learning class, I first check with them to make sure they are having a good day and are in a good mine frame to learn. I will then help them with missing assignments, current assignments, or with studying for quizzes and tests coming up. We also participate in games that enhance or remediate them with what they have learned or need more work in learning. They also get the one on one attention that they may not get during daily class time. Once students have completed any need assignments we we participate in various enrichment activities.

The Gaming Adventure
My class is utilized to assist students that learn in many different ways. I work with them on homework, missing assignments and remediate them in skills they are weak in. During enrichment, students are able to use their mind and critical thinking skills to play and outwit each other while playing different games.
Mr. Miller
During our afternoon ACADEMIC time, we seek to combine technology with academics in order to maximize learning and mastery of standards. Specifically, students are asked to login to their individual computers, go to the YES GOOGLE CLASSROOM, and use the link provided there in order to join our ZOOM MEETING. The ZOOM meeting is used for three purposes: 1) for the teacher to take attendance, 2) for students to assist one another as able via chat, 3) for me to assist students as needed via chat and screen sharing. Students work on their assignments - helping each other and getting help from me as needed. It is a very positive, productive learning environment.
Our ENRICHMENT time is a direct extension of our academic time. We seek to utilize various TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES to further our knowledge (remediate, enrich, and accelerate) regarding current middle school curricula (math, science, social studies, and English language arts) and related categories of more generalized knowledge. Students have enjoyed developing expertise with utilizing various web-based platforms in order to learn. These include Blooket, Kahoot, Quizizz, and Quizlet - and we hope to add more. Several students have used their ever-developing technology skill sets to develop projects for school-wide and region-level TECHNOLOGY FAIRS - a tradition of excellence we hope to continue. Finally, we look forward to beginning project-based learning via STEAM Lab activities using Legos.
Ms. Scott
I begin my day by asking the kids what assignments they have for the day. I list these assignments on the board. Once the assignments are on the board, the students begin to work. I assist any student with their assignments, by working out example problems on the board. I also provide them with additional practice assignments. We also have conferences to discuss how their grades are in their classes and to talk about what are the plans to improve the grades. My overall focus is ACADEMICS!
In Academics, we utilize peer tutoring through Zoom. Break out rooms are created for each subject, and students join the room of the subject they will be working on during academic time. Students work with each other to complete assignments, like homework. If students do not understand a concept, Mrs. Shinholster will join the Breakout room and assist them. Mrs. Shinholster also hosts study sessions to prepare students for quizzes and tests. At the end of each academic session, students complete a Daily Academic Check-in to share what assignments they have completed for the day in YES.
Our enrichment class consists of Self Care Talk & Activities. We discuss topics that focus on taking care of ourselves mentally, physically, emotionally, and socially. We take walks throughout the school to get in a little exercise to promote good physical health. The students enjoy this time to move about while we continue our Self Care talks.
In a world where technology seems to dominate much of our daily existence, students and teachers often find themselves pressed to utilize these resources in classroom settings towards academic enrichment. That said, 3D printing represents a useful venue through which academic goals can manifest with tangible results, thereby giving form to childhood creativity while remaining contextually grounded in STEM curriculum. In summation, the YES 3D printing program is geared towards providing unique experiences where children can use online 3D modeling tools thereby producing exemplars beholden to standards aligned with the coordinate plane.
During our academic time, students are provided with homework help, remediation, and tutoring to make sure that they are successful in their academic classes.
For enrichment, students are improving their reading skills by participating in a Book Club.
