Shane Siddall to take on the Navy

Shane Siddall is a senior at Aurora High School and is ready to depart and enlist in the United States Navy. Shane hopes to enter the Corpsman program which involves field medicine, combat as well as field hospital staff. Shane explains that "because I had seen them in action, and in that moment I knew what I wanted to."

Shane has always been interested in going into the Naval Service for as long as he can remember.  Shane has always had the desire to serve and protect his country. In terms of choosing the Navy, Shane said, "I found the Naval branch to hold the most occupations that I would have interest in."

Regarding graduating from AHS, Shane has mixed emotions. Shane says, "I have a sense of elation as well as a sense of fear like I’m looking forward to being able to chase my 'calling' one might say, but at the same time school has been my entire life and it is going to be very strange to leave all I’ve known behind."

Shane explains that his favorite high school memory is his senior homecoming where he and his "beautiful date" had a wonderful time.

Out of all the teachers at Aurora High School, one stood out to Shane. Shane explains, "Mrs. Taylor although I only had her at the end of my high school career, I would say that beyond a doubt she had the biggest impact on my life, undoubtedly." Additionally, Shane says that Mrs. Taylor has made him a more confident person and has made his senior year better every day.

Shane gives his advice to underclassmen, saying, "You have to be able to take everything inside, for instance, don’t let one screw up or a mistake tank your day or week no matter what happens keep your head high and keep walking on with confidence inside. "

Finally, Shane gave one last message before leaving AHS and opening up a new chapter in his life. Shane said, "This school gave me a lot of memories both good and bad. The bad ones might come through more but it makes the good ones shine even brighter, but I can say with full confidence this school made me who I am today."

In terms of Shane's senior quote: "I Think, Therefore I Am" (Cogito, Ergo Sum)
