D-O 2.0 is a droid inspired from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. While many droid replicas are able to be driven via remote control or other means, D-O 2.0 is meant to be autonomous. It will contain a computer vision and speech recognition system, and will house a sensor suite allowing it to gather data on the outside environment.
D-O's drivetrain consists of 2 6 volt motors driving the droid's wheels via internal gears. To control the arm and head pitch motions, two servos have been placed such that their outputs drive two separate axles on the same axis.
The electrical systems onboard D-O consist of DELTA, a custom drive computer in charge of drive control and power distribution, EPSILON, a custom sensor computer which controls sensor data and telemetry, and a Raspberry Pi 4 B for image and sound processing.
D-O is in the process of initial drive tests and PID tuning.
Im Om Anavekar, a senior in the Athenian School and soon to be freshman at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. I never get bored with CAD, circuit design and making new things! With the new age of space travel approaching and more technology being available to all, I hope to launch a satellite into orbit before 2026. May the force be with you!
