My junior year, when looking for a independent project to pursue, Lori Harsch shared with me the following video of a person using marbles to create a music machine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvUU8joBb1Q
While I didn't pursue this idea last year, I wanted to begin trying to make my own music machine. As a foreword, my final result is nowhere nearly sophisticated as the video above, but this is my first step in my journey to a much more intricate virtual replica.
Overall, this was a extremely fruitful experience for learning how to learn new material, problem solve on my own, and just becoming a more independent learning. I was exposed to new concepts in code, as well as combine both physics and math into my program. Looking back, I wish I could have included more physics concepts such as rotational motion, friction, air resistance, collisions, and more.
As it is with all projects, this project is really just the beginning to a more long term project that I hope to carry out after high school. I am thankful for having the opportunity to let myself be guided by these academic passions, and encourage all to pursue their own intellectual interests.
