Scene 4: Disabling Security Cameras in Vatican City
This scrambling is possible, but it requires a Neodymium magnet (type of magnet), with a strength in the range of N35-N55. I found it was possible for the size of the magnet in the movie to hold that charge (N35-N555) large enough to disrupt the camera. Movie magnet was approximately a thin cylinder with a radius of a few inches and height of a few centimeters (threshold).
Introduction: In this scene, Ethan uses a weapon to fire an extremely small magnet into the security camera, disabling the system. The analysis of this scene revolves around two key parts: 1) If any magnet is strong enough to disable a security camera, and 2) if this magnet exists, is it small enough to fit in the weapon featured in the film?
Personal Hypothesis: I believe this is possible, but there is not a lot of true work to prove it, besides opinionated pieces. I will continue to look for my evidence in the world of physics. The camera would have to be transmitting the feed not through a wire, but in a sort of airdrop style, using a form of bluetooth connection. Or powerful enough to disturb electrons.
Based on the Neodymium Specs, it is totally realistic for a magnet to be this small, which means the scene overall was realistic!
