Teacher Waiver
Steps to Submit Teacher Waiver to Receive In-State Tuition
Are you classified as a Non-Resident for tuition purposes, pursuing a program that leads to initial teacher certification, and working full time in an Arizona public school, an approved Arizona charter school, or an approved Arizona private school? If so, you can receive in-state tuition rates through the Teacher Waiver.
Please keep the following in mind:
You must submit the Teacher Waiver EVERY semester to receive the in-state tuition rates.
Your residency status will remain "Non-Resident" but you will be charged in-state tuition instead of out-of-state.
Please contact Residency if you have questions about approved charter and private schools: residency@asu.edu.
Note: Teach For America students do not need to submit the teacher waiver.
**Please be advised that an approved Teacher Waiver will reduce your charges owed to ASU but it could also reduce your financial aid eligibility. If you notice any adjustments to your financial aid awards after your waiver has been processed, please contact the ASU Financial Aid office, 855-278-5080.**
Please read through ALL the steps before completing and submitting the form to avoid any errors or delay in processing time. You can also find this information directly through Residency's site.
Step 1 – Complete Online Questionnaire
Go to https://students.asu.edu/residency and click on “Teacher” to review the Teacher Waiver eligibility.
Click on the Online Questionnaire – this link will direct you to https://go.oasis.asu.edu/residencypetition/ and request you to sign-on with your My ASU credentials (if you’re not already signed-in).
Complete and submit the Online Questionnaire no later than the posted petition deadline.
Step 2 – Upload Documentation
Once you have submitted your Online Questionnaire, you will be directed to upload your supporting documentation to the Residency Petition Dashboard and click “submit” no later than the posted documentation deadline:
Driver's license, learner's permit, or state ID
Employment Contract
You must be under contract to either teach on a full-time basis or work as a full-time classroom aide in an Arizona public school district, an approved Arizona charter school, or an approved Arizona private school.
Approved Course List signed by the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College. The course list should be generated after you complete "Step 1."
Please fill in your name, student ID, the semester you are petitioning, and ALL courses you will take in that semester.
Submit this completed form to GradEdPrep@asu.edu for a signature.
We will email you the signed form, which you will upload to the Residency Petition Dashboard.
(NOTE: You must be enrolled in ALL the courses listed on your Approved Course List before your Teacher Waiver can be processed)
