Loop Head (pop-up) Cinema
Concept
Concept
Places to be entertained, especially for younger people, are practically not existent on the Loop Head Peninsula. Attempts to bring those to the area had been made in the past but have all eventually failed.
Going to the cinema is a very well-liked pastime for people of all ages, but is particularly popular among the younger generation. The closest cinema to Loop Head however is in Ennis, some 30 kilometres away and a visit to the cinema is therefore expensive and requires some planning.
The Loop Head Peninsula (pop-up) Cinema envisages the development of a portable cinema system that can be moved from location to location and be used in the community halls, digital hubs and other public buildings in the area and possibly even outdoors. The portable concept would make the cinematic experience available to people without their own transport, which would particularly benefit children and teenagers.
Project Justification & Objectives
The lack of meeting places and offerings for entertainment in rural and remote areas, especially for younger people, is a widespread problem in Ireland which can have negative effects on mental health and trigger antisocial behaviour.
A portable cinema would considerably improve the current situation and provide a place to meet and socialise while seeing a movie with friends.
The portable concept would keep the initial costs down (compared to a traditional bricks & mortar cinema) and could take advantage of recent and in-progress developments around the peninsula like the digital hubs in Kilkee and Cross, Kilbaha Community Hall and the Querrin Schoolhouse.
The Loop Head Peninsula (pop-up) Cinema could be run by the community or - after the initial development and set-up phase - be outsourced to a third party as a business opportunity.
