Loop Head Community Websites
In Planning
In Planning
The Loop Head peninsula is made up of various townlands and villages, each with their own history and character. The community website project would utilize the easy to use (and free) Google Sites application to produce websites that would showcase each of the villages and surrounding areas on the Loop: Carrigaholt, Cross, Kilbaha, Doonaha, Querrin and Moyasta (Kilkee already has a website).
These websites would cover history and heritage, points of interest local businesses and community life in general. In addition the website could also be an information hub and feature community news, events and projects; updates on water/power outages, a buy/sell/swap forum, etc. All these features would not only be of benefit for residents but also for visitors to get a deeper insight into community life.
A pilot project for Carrigaholt in cooperation with CDA is currently underway.
Project Justification & Objectives
The internet has been the leading source of information worldwide for quite some time and the traditional website is still the perfect medium to convey information. Loop Head as a tourist attraction is very well covered through the Loop Head Tourism website as well as the individual websites of tourism operators. The wealth of stories and history of the different villages and townlands however is scattered over social media pages and difficult to find websites. A series of websites for each village and the surrounding townlands would not only be a complement to the tourism websites and so become an attraction for visitors but would also act as an information hub for visitors and residents alike. This project would also have the potential to bring the communities even closer together and strengthen the ‘Pride of Place’.
