At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
Understand the meaning of history as an academic discipline.
Apply the knowledge in historical methodology and philosophy in assessing and analyzing existing historical narratives.
Examine and appreciate the importance of historical evidences and sources in the life of the Filipinos.
Evaluate primary sources for their credibility, authenticity, and provenance.
Analyze the context, content, and perspective of different kinds of primary sources.
Determine the contribution of different kinds of primary sources in understanding Philippine history.
Develop critical and analytical skills with exposure to primary sources.
Recognize the multiplicity of interpretation that can be read from a historical context.
Demonstrate ability to argue for or against a particular issue using primary sources.
Analyze social, political, economic, and cultural issues in the Philippines using the lens of history.
Propose recommendations or solutions to present-day problems based on the understanding of the past and anticipation of the future through the study of history.
Manifest interest in local history and show concern in promoting and preserving the country’s historical and cultural heritage.
Apply historiographical methods in writing the history of one’s locality or country.
