Following the full completion of Student Teaching/Clinical Practice, as well as course completion, the passage of the CalTPAs, and completion of the RICA exam, teacher candidates will be recommended to receive their preliminary teaching credentials through the CTC.
The Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) requires California teachers with a preliminary credential to enroll in an approved two-year Induction program within their first year of teaching to earn the recommendation for a clear credential.
No, Azusa Pacific does not offer a Teacher Induction Program. Traditionally, Induction Programs are run through your district of employment. When you are initially hired, be sure to inquire about how to enroll for their Teacher Induction Program. You will need to begin your program your first year you are hired in your teaching position.
Yes! In order to be eligible for a Clear teaching credential through the state of California, you must complete an induction program.
When you are interviewing, or even why you are intiially hired, be sure to ask your hiring manager about how to clear your credential under their employment. Many private and charter schools may have a partnership with their neighboring districts, or will have guidance as to where you can go to complete this program.
Your preliminary credential is valid for 5 years from the date it is issued. If you have been unable to complete an induction during the five year window, you will need to contact the CTC to inquire about eligibility for an extension of the preliminary credential.
Azusa Pacific University has entered into a partnership with the Foothill Induction Consortium Program. They have sent slides that are helpful for candidates entering into induction to review before exiting the clinical practice program. Additionally, the Office of Student Placements will offer an "Induction Introduction" workshop once every semester near the end of the semester, where partners form the consortium will be available virtually for candidates to ask questions and gather information prior to employment. These sessions will NOT be recorded. Please be sure to ask the Office of Student Placements when this event will be occurring, and review the announcement page on this site for upcoming events.
