What is a University Coach?
The University Coach supports Teacher Candidates by providing on-going formative feedback and evaluations to further the development of the candidate's professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for effective instruction of all TK-12 students.
Key Responsibilities:
Dedicate approximately 2-3 hours per week (for full semester) per candidate to provide observations and coaching.
Our University Coaches observe via video capture each teacher candidate 6 or more times per semester and provide feedback via SIBME and Canvas.
Facilitate Clinical Practice Learning Team meetings (6 per semester) and individual coaching sessions (2 per semester)
Collaborate with school Cooperating Teachers to assist, solve, and evaluate candidate performance.
Our University Coaches meet virtually at least twice per semester with the assigned Site Mentor (Intern Candidates) or Cooperating Teacher (Student Teaching Candidates) to go over ways to help improve the candidates performance.
Communicate regularly with Cooperating Teachers (e.g., forwarding weekly Teacher Candidate Announcements).
Participate in all coach training and professional development meetings (held virtually for synchronous or asynchronous participation).
Qualifications:
A demonstrated, vibrant Christian faith compatible with the mission of Azusa Pacific University.
Master's degree in Education (or highly related field) from a regionally accredited institution.
Valid and Clear Multiple Subjects/Single Subject credential or Educational Specialist credential (Mild to Moderate, Moderate to Severe).
Evidence of experience in mentoring/coaching preservice and/or beginning teachers, preferred.
A minimum of 8 years full-time professional teaching experience in school settings where the curriculum aligns with CA adopted framework and the school reflects the diversity of CA student population (experience in public schools preferred).
Ability to learn and use technology to communicate regularly and as a part of the formative and summative assessment process.
Teaching credential/certification/license in the area of supervision or Administrative credential.
Computer and internet access.
