Attendance Procedures
Attendance Procedures
Students are required to attend school and may only be signed-out from school for unavoidable causes such as illness, the celebration of holy days, or recognition of important cultural events. Students who register as absent from school, and/or those who sign-out during the day, are not permitted to be on school property or to attend school events.
Reporting Absence
New in 2024 is School Messenger reporting: Sign-up Here. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to report attendance online.
Mobile Device: Download the School Messenger App
Website: https://go.schoolmessenger.ca
For traditional attendance reporting, please contact the school attendance line at 613- 962-9233 and press “2” when prompted by the automated message attendant. Alternatively, you may write a note in advance of a planned absence that can be submitted to the Main Office. We also accept email correspondence for attendance at: css@hpedsb.on.ca.
Safe Arrival Calls
The school is required by legislation to contact the parents/guardians of all students 7-8 if their child fails to arrive at school without prior notification.
School Messenger Attendance Calls
When students are absent without prior notification, the automated School Messenger system will contact you with the details by end of day.
Early Departure
We are a large school of over 1100 students. Any special requests such as changes to student pick-up or bussing must be communicated to the Office by 2PM. We will not be able to make changes after 2PM.
During the school day, special pick-up or departure of students is arranged through our Office: 613-476-2196. All students must be signed-out if leaving the school during the school day, and signed-in if returning or arriving late. Student sign-in/out is conducted through our Office. As a necessary safety precaution, parents/guardians must contact the office when they arrive to pick-up their children. All pick-ups/drop-offs must be conducted at the main entrance reception unless otherwise specified by the office. These procedures apply to all students K-12.
Families should complete Temporary Attendance Excusal Form 394-1 to request that their child be temporarily excused from school for an extended period of time. The form can be obtained from the main office and should be returned to the main office once completed, prior to the absence. Communication with teachers is encouraged in advance.
CSS employs a Student Supervision Monitor (SSM) whose job it is to help monitor student behaviour and attendance from Gr.9-12. Should a student's attendance become a concern, families may be contacted by our SSM in addition to communication from the student's teacher, and the School Messenger system.
