Spanish one is one of the electives that I chose because even though it is required to take at least one langue credit I was exited to take Spanish and enjoy the class. Throughout the year we learned basic conversation words/how to introduce yourself, words for your family, words for hobbies, words for actions, and much more. Next year (in 10th grade) and in the future I plan to go to Spanish 2, 3, and 4. In this class we do a lot of out-loud practice with the class as well as working on work sheets to get the words in our brain. We use stories as a base for a lot of practice as well as translation. In this class I feel that I do well becasue I came into the year with a little bit on experince with speaking spainish from my family. I think that I keep my grade up and try my best to learn as much as I can which Alexi (our teacher) does a very well job helping everyone at their own pace.
Mi Familia, Mis Amigos, Y Yo Video Project
In this project we used new vocabulary and the verbs "ser" (to be) and "tener" (to have) to communicate about the people in our lives. We created a video/slideshow on Canva that had pictures and descriptions of the people of our choice (I chose my mom, my dad, one of my dogs, my cat, and myself) We practiced the use of Spanish by making our descriptions and the voice over in Spanish.
In this project I am proud of being able to use Spanish and seeing the final result of my project which I think turned out not too bad. During this project I faced the challenge of having to speak Spanish and attempting the correct grammar and pronunciation of some of the words. I overcame this by re-doing some parts of the recording so that it came out better than the time before, even if I had to do it multiple times I still tried to overcome it. I grew by using new words and trying a speaking project which I haven't done before. I think that speaking is one of the ways that you can grow as a Spanish speaker so I think I was able to grow in pronouncing words and getting more practice that way as well. If I was to do this project again I would practice the script so that I can be more confident in the pronunciation of my script. But overall I think that the final project was not that bad and I am happy with the results that I came out with.
For this project we used skills and resources we gained during the year to create a story. We had some requirements but no restrictions to what the story could be about. I wrote mine about a boy and a dog in a snowy city with a few other characters such as a cat, girl etc. This project was great practice for using what we have learned and I enjoyed getting to write a story. (more details in reflection)
During the process of making my Spanish story Un Perro y Un Niño I felt that I was able to put the knowledge and skills of my Spanish 1 learning to use. I felt that I was able to do this successfully as well. Although there was room for refinement, I was able to refine my work during the draft process so my writing could be as good as possible. I enjoyed bringing my story to life more with the illustrations in the story jumper, even though there were some restrictions with the available items I think that I made it work. My story needed pretty specific illustrations that were not exactly in the story jumper website and so it did turn out to be a little different than I imagined, such as a snowy scene was not available so I had to use snowflakes and add them to a sunny city scene. But I think that even though I had to overcome the challenges using story jumpers I still liked the ease of using the program overall.
The project at first sounded a little threatening because I was not sure what the overall expectations were and what the process was going to be like. After we started doing the project though I realized that there were so many resources available and it made creating a book way more fun. I think that I was able to stay on top of the work and was never stressed about finishing any step/draft because we had so much time in class for each of them and I knew that if I didn’t finish I would have time outside of class as well because the timeline was stretched out. I never really struggled with the actual writing process or concept either because we had gathered a lot of knowledge and resources throughout the year and also had help available so I felt like the writing process came easily and then all of the steps of refinement allowed me to have polished and correct writing.
This project I think was executed very well on the teachers part as well. I felt that it was organized and steps were super clear to the students. I think that there was never a point where I was confused on what we were supposed to be doing. I think that all of the resources on the slides and docs were super helpful and allowed the students to have an easy understanding of the project. The expectations were clear and there were resources for every step of the project which was very helpful.
Overall I think that my book looks pretty good, but in the future I would have liked to take a little more time on the binding so it would turn out more clean. My writing I think was well done and had little to no mistakes. I used my work time well and was never behind on my work. I feel that the project was done well on the teachers' part and that helped me do well on my project and come out with a book that I am proud of.
