In fashion design we got to create pretty much anything wearable or usable we wanted with any material. We had a few self and project reflections but other than that we had mainly work time. I mainly focused on crocheting hats but, students created things from stuffed animals to pants to pillows. We had access to sewing machines and anything we needed to create. I really enjoyed the freedom of this class and had fun growing my skills.
My original idea for this piece was to create a hat because it was winter. I had crocheted before but this was my first time making a beanie. While making this project I didn’t run into too many problems. But at the end when I was done with the hat It was too small both wide and length wise. I am most proud of myself being able to complete this project overall. If I had one more chance I would have made it bigger and more clean stitches.
My original idea for this project was to try again on the first hat I made with more experience and knowing the mistakes I made last time. While making this project I didn’t have many problems I just kept going through mistakes I made crocheting. For this project I am most proud of being able to complete a wearable hat that was better than the last one I made. If I had one more time I think that I might add more details or something different like a pom pom to the top to make the hat more detailed and interesting but I am happy with this hat.
My original idea for these was to have a project to work on while brainstorming for my final project. I decided to make some headbands because they are simple but have a purpose. While making this project the only issue I ran into was sizing, but I overcame this pretty easily, they did turn out a little small but they were still wearable. If I had one more time I would take more measurements to make them better sized.
My original idea for this project was to do a crochet bucket hat but I ran out of time and ended up just doing a beanie. For the requirements we had to do 2 different skills so I embroidered some designs onto the crochet. I didn’t have any struggles with this project. If I had more time I would have done something different from what I have been doing, maybe a bucket hat.
This semester I felt that I used my class time very well. I never was off task and got projects done as efficiently as I could. I think that the only time I was off task is when I needed a break and during that time I would use the time for other class work. I felt that I problem solved when I needed help or was stuck, even though there weren't many times that I was facing a challenge. If I was, I worked through it or asked the teacher for help. My skills did improve a lot over the course of this class. Some examples of my skills improving was me using the sewing machine for the first time and getting good, straight stitches. I also got a lot more practice crocheting and embroidering which was helpful. As a designer I still want to work on reaching out of what I already know and use different mediums and techniques.
