COURSE REGISTRATION INFORMATION
(from Sonia's 2/7 email)
Course planning and registration (letter from 2/3 AHS PARENT EMAIL) is underway for the 23/24 AHS school year. Following are some important points to consider before beginning course planning for either full-time or dual enrollment at AHS. Please make sure to have courses for which you would like to enroll decided by Feb. 22, at the latest. You can write them down either in the course template provided below or in a document of your choice.
*All homeschool students are welcome to attend any of the scheduled registration events AHS is hosting for full-time students (see STEP 3 below). The bell schedule can be found here.
**NEW THIS YEAR: Students dual enrolling for DMACC courses not on the AHS campus or ISU courses will also need to register for those on Infinite Campus but don't need to worry about this now. They are not yet in the MYAP system but should be soon. If you are registering for a DMACC class on the DMACC Campus that happens to be offered at AHS, make sure to differentiate between the DMACC sections at AHS and those at DMACC. The DMACC ones will have an OCCO or OLCA in front of them.
CONSIDERATIONS IN PLANNING:
SCHEDULE: The schedule for 23/24 will be the same as this year's and can be found here. Mondays are all 1-8 periods, Tuesdays/Thursdays only periods 1,3,5,7 (ODD) and Wednesdays/Fridays only periods 2,4,6,8 (EVEN). Tuesday-Friday are 80 minute periods.
MUSIC: See what periods music classes are offered here.
SCIENCE: A Science course offering flowchart and science acceleration information can be found here.
PE: Many new PE options are offered at AHS next year. See the Registration book (below) for details.
ACCELERATION: General course acceleration information is found below.
Please note that the only way to receive an AHS diploma is for the graduation requirements found on page 4 of the AHS Registration book to be met.
A student may dual enroll for 75% of the school day or 6 out of the 8 periods offered at AHS and still be considered dual-enrolled. Any more than 6 classes per semester at AHS (this includes courses taken at DMACC and/or ISU paid for by ACSD) changes enrollment to full-time AHS status.
Read about whether your acceleration is right for your student here.
NOTE: Is your student taking courses through an accredited school/academy? Check here to see if the school/academy is on the accepted list to transfer credit at ACSD. If so, acceleration is not required.
Here is the acceleration application. You may submit your form to Student Services at AHS or email it to Bonnie May
NOTE: When registering for classes on Infinite Campus, always register for the class which your student has applied for acceleration. If the subject exam is not passed in August, counselors will place he/she in the appropriate class.
If a student wants to take a math course that is at a more accelerated pace than Algebra 1 in 9th grade, the student is required to complete the request for acceleration form. The student would need to take a first and second-semester exam for each course that is a prerequisite and earn a score of at least 80% for each of the semesters (not the average of the two semesters). For example, if the student wished to enter Advanced Algebra 2 as a freshman, the student would need to score at least 80% on both of the semester exams for Algebra 1 and both semester exams for Geometry, in other words, 4 exams in all.
It is possible to enroll concurrently in both Geometry and Advanced Algebra 2 as a freshman, so in that case, only the two semester exams for Algebra 1 would be needed. Both Geometry & Advanced Algebra 2 would then be on the student's schedule for that school year.
For the student desiring to take Precalculus during the 10th-grade year, it is the opinion of AHS's Mathematics Department that concurrent enrollment in these two courses is preferred to trying to earn credit by exam for Geometry to accelerate to Advanced Algebra 2, as students miss too much by not having the classroom experience. To be clear, concurrent enrollment in the core courses is possible only with Geometry & Advanced Algebra 2, as other cases need a prerequisite course that could not be taken concurrently.
The timeline for course registration and acceleration for the upcoming school year is generally February 28. Once families submit their acceleration request please note they will not hear from the ELP department until they have processed the forms. You may submit your form to Student Services at AHS or email it to Bonnie May

STUDENTS: Don't forget to bring the following when registering:
NEW: Homeschool Registration Event 2/16 from 9:30-11:30 in auditorium.
1) a hard copy or easily accessible digital copy of your course requests or completed 4-year plan if attending full time. If you've added homeschool courses, then highlight the courses you will input into Infinite Campus for easy reference on registration day.
If you have any course planning questions, email your counselor (current 8th grade students follow the freshman alphabetic assignment). Please copy Sonia Harold in the email.
DUAL-ENROLLED STUDENTS: Counselors will do their best to keep class choices consecutive in a student’s schedule, but that will not be done until mid-summer.
8th GRADE and FULL TIME REGISTRATION INFORMATION
REGISTRATION FOR SENIOR YEAR PLUS (SYP) OPTIONS AT DMACC AND ISU are not completed on Infinite Campus as AHS courses are, unless the courses being registered for are DMACC courses offered at AHS and are therefore part of the AHS course offerings. Registration for DMACC and ISU courses is done via a separate registration process, completed independently from the Infinite Campus registration process. See DMACC and ISU pages on this site for more information.
