HOW TO SIGN UP FOR A DMACC CAREER ACADEMY
The 2025-2026 DMACC Career Academy Pre-Registration form is now available for students who are interested in taking a Career Academy program beginning in the Fall of 2025. Here are the available academies at Ames Hunziker Center but keep in mind Welding is in Nevada and there are 2 options that are virtual (see below).
🚩CHANGES FOR 25/26:
-The HEALTH OCCUPATIONS ACADEMY is now a 1 semester academy.
-The AUTO COLLISION ACADEMY is no longer offered ast of Fall 2024.
-The BUSINESS ACADEMY is now a year-long academy, rather than a semester academy.
If you are taking Career Academy Courses at the DMACC Hunziker Center in Fall 2025:
Click on this link and fill out the Career Academy Pre-Registration Form and to see which academies are offered at the various campuses. Note that there are two virtual academies you can read about below. *The Welding Academy is held at Nevada High School. MAKE SURE YOU ENTER AMES HIGH SCHOOL as the student's SCHOOL so that ACSD pays for the academy.
Keep in mind that seniors have priority over juniors since this is their last opportunity to take Career Academy courses. However, do not let this discourage you! There is a waitlist, and the order is determined by the date/time you pre-registered. The earlier you pre-register, the higher your name will be on the waitlist. Academies can also be taken by 9th and 10th grade students, so long as the pre-requisites are met for the academies.
Confirmation of acceptance in the desired academy will be sent by a DMACC advisor in April or May.
Note: This is not registration for regular Fall 25 OCCO and OLCA DMACC courses (that registration opens mid-April and you will be notified by me when it is open). Registration for 25/26 DMACC courses held on the AHS campus will be completed when 25/26 AHS course registration takes place.
Proficiency Requirements are not necessary for enrollment in Career Academies.

IMPORTANT NOTE ADDED 1/17/2025: CLICK ON THE DMACC ICON below TO SEE ALL THE AVAILABLE ACADEMIES (USE THE DROP DOWN MENU TO EXPAND EACH ACADEMY. ANY CLASS LISTED IN EACH OF THE ACADEMIES MAY ALSO BE TAKEN INDIVIDUALLY (either OLCA OR OCCO) and NOT ONLY PART OF THE ACADEMY. KEEP IN MIND THAT THE DMACC APPROVED LIST may not yet reflect this and is being amended to properly reflect that. For now, expand the course listings in each of the academies to see the available classes which will also be available to be taken individually (that registration happens this spring). Also available, see below, are two virtual academies (Computer Programming and Patient Access Specialist). And the same applies, each of the individual courses you see there will be able to be taken separately and not part of the academy, if offered. NOTE: You do not need to complete the STEP 1: COMPLETE THE DMACC APPLICATION. You are only required to complete the PRE-REGISTRATION FORM.
Students are provided a foundation of computer science and programming courses that will prepare them to create business solutions by designing, writing, and executing computer programs. Twenty-seven total DMACC credits can be earned in this academy (18 the first year and 9 the second year). Students will earn a Computer Languages diploma upon successful completion of all Academy courses and three additional core courses (not offered as part of the academy). Find out more here (scroll to locate Computer Programming drop down).

Do you aspire to help others? Does the thought of working in healthcare excite you? Or is it just too much blood and guts? Don’t worry – healthcare pathways are available where you can still impact others, minus the blood and guts!
Have you considered a gratifying career in healthcare as a Patient Access Specialist? This role serves as the initial point of contact for patients and the face of the organization while advocating for the community's healthcare.
DMACC’s Patient Access Specialist Certificate program is 16 credits and may be completed online. Program courses are taught by instructors who have experience in the industry, providing best practices and guidance throughout the academic journey.
Upon completing the program, students may obtain positions with job titles such as Patient Access Specialist, Service Coordinator, Patient Advocate, Patient Experience Representative, etc. Many healthcare settings need the administrative services provided by the Patient Access Specialist to provide patient connections. This includes hospitals, clinics, health insurance organizations, home health agencies, etc.
If continuing your education is intriguing, the Patient Access Specialist program does ladder into other programs at DMACC, expanding opportunities in learning and in the field. Did you know that Iowa State University has a Bachelor of Healthcare Management? Opportunities abound!
