These academies provide accredited course options which ACSD recognizes and accepts in lieu of acceleration. For instance, if your student is taking ALG 1 via Edgenuity and wishes to take Geometry as a freshman at AHS, then AHS will recognize the completiion (proof of transcript is required) ALG 1 course and the student will not need to apply for acceleration at AHS.
FYI: Iowa Code § 282.18(11A), allows students open enrolled to virtual schools to elect to participate in up to two extracurricular or co-curricular activities per year in the student's resident district. This includes extra curricular activities such as sports or drama. Co-curricular activities would be those such as band, choir, or FFA which typically require participation in choir, band, or FFA class in order to participate. In the case of band, choir, or FFA this would be the one activity because these activities typically span over two semesters. Welding, family consumer science, or other courses that do not have an activity tied to the course are not permitted.
These academies (below) are not listed on the approved list for Iowa, but may provide quality accredited education. For approved coursework accepted in Iowa schools, click the link above.
