Step-by-Step FAFSA Events
A Step-by-Step FAFSA Event is a virtual walk through of the FAFSA form in which participants join a Zoom call and fill out the FAFSA while being led through the form by an ICAN professional. Additional FAFSA helpers will be available through the chat feature or breakout rooms to answer questions and provide assistance.
OCTOBER 1 is always the first day the FAFSA application becomes available. This year it was available a bit early on September 24.
Here's what you need to know:
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)- This application can be filled out anytime after OCT 1 of a college-bound senior’s year and will be completed each year of the student's college years by both student and parent/guardian.

*Even if you are certain your family will not qualify for federal financial aid because of your family’s income bracket, many colleges require a FAFSA to be on file in order to be considered for merit-based scholarships as well as need-based scholarships. This application is completed each year your student is in college.
