Any 9th-12th grader, so long as he/she meets the prerequisites for the courses and meets the district proficiency requirements, is eligible to enroll in courses at DMACC, with the exception of Career Technical Education (CTE), also knows as Career Academies, which is strictly for 11th-12th grade students.
****Dual enrollment isn’t required for participating in course options at a community college to be paid for by ACSD. So, if you didn't mark dual enroll on your CPI FORM A by Sept.1 of the current school year, then it is still possible to enroll in DMACC courses.
VOCAB
Concurrent enrollment contracted courses are courses which a local district contracts with the community college and are paid for by the school district for the student.
OLCA at DMACC- stands for online course access. OLCA courses are 100% asynchronous courses.
OLCA classes are listed as Online-WEB in the DMACC COURSE CATALOG:
OCCO at DMACC- stands for On Campus course options and includes courses which are 100% on campus, a combination of on-campus and asynchronous courses, or on-campus/ real time virtual courses.
The following are classifed as OCCO classes and are listed as the following in the DMACC COURSE CATALOG:
Face-to-Face: Class location listed as [CAMPUS, Building & Room #]
Face-to-Face & Online: Class location listed as [CAMPUS-Building & Room#, Web Blended WEB]- Part of the class meets face to face and the online portion is asynchronous instruction
Real-time Virtual: Class location listed as [Online Virtual Classroom]- Students sign on virtually at a particular time for live instruction via video.
Real-time Virtual & Online: Class location listed as [Online Virtual Classroom, Web Blended WEB]
Career Technical Education (CTE) - 1-2 year vocational programs (with the exception of the Business Academy, which is only 1 semester). These don’t require proficiency measures to be met (see below).
Determine if you meet the proficiency requirements. Proficiencies can be demonstrated with a combination of the ones listed in the document linked below or a letter from your supervising teacher.
FIND THE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS HERE (Skip to the table in the document if you just need to see the proficiency requirements).
NOTE: There are additional options for homeschool students found in this document to be able to meet proficiencies which are not included on the ALTERNATE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS that AHS publishes such as Iowa Assessment test scores and PSAT test scores.
A) Here are the APPROVED courses for which ACSD will pay. Use CMD F (Mac) or CTRL F (PC) to search for a class.
B) Here is the full DMACC course catalog. Remember not all these courses are approved by ACSD, but self payment is always an option. See below.
IF A DESIRED COURSE IS NOT ON THE APPROVED LIST, IT CAN POSSIBLY BE TAKEN AT ISU or REQUESTED TO TAKE AT DMACC IF IT'S A CLASS THAT IS IN AN AREA OF STUDY A STUDENT IS PURSUING ACCORDING TO THEIR 4- YEAR PLAN. PLEASE EMAIL SONIA HAROLD IF THIS IS THE CASE. However, a student may choose to self-pay for the course, in the event that AHS denies approval. Keep in mind that courses which are taken for self-pay options will not count towards AHS graduation requirements.
NOTE: Name officially changed from Online Career Academy to Online Course Access to eliminate confusion with Career Academies such as Health Occupations, Teacher Academy, etc.- finally!)
An Online Self-Assessment Quiz is available for you to share with students to see if online courses are a good fit for them: https://www.dmacc.edu/online/self-assessment.html
FALL 2025 CAREER ACADEMY FORM (IMPORTANT to complete STEP 2- you do not need to worry about completing STEP 1- the career academy application). This will open Jan 2026 for the 2026/2027 school year. Watch from an email from me.
Note:
School should be listed as Ames High School so that ACSD pays for the courses, do not list homeschool.
OCCO offers the same classes as Online Course Access (OLCA). There may be some on campus courses that OLCA doesn't offer.
Registration for Career Technical Education (Career Academies) occurs in January. Sonia Harold will email the registration information.
Registration for DMACC classes held at AHS occurs when regular AHS course registration occurs in Feb/March.
OCCO/OLCA Registration forms will be released by Sonia Harold to our HSAP families via e-mail.
Spring 2025 classes begin January 13, 2025.
DMACC will send books and course materials to AHS. An email will be sent to each student when their books are ready for pick-up by AHS Registar, Gina North, shortly before classes begin, usually the week before classes.
Depending on the mode the class is offered, email the advisor in the table below, copy Nicole Patton and Sonia Harold stating which course you would like to drop. Find the drop dates below.
