My photography explores the effect that colour modification or manipulation has on landscape photography and how this can be used to create surreal or dreamlike environments. I am interested in colour manipulation because the effect that it has may be felt differently by everyone. This is because colours mean different things to different people; something which is observed in colour psychology as a result of existing schemas that encourage certain emotional responses to different colours. Schemas are preconceived rules based on past experiences that act as cognitive framework for processing new information quickly, and can be applied for example when viewing a new photograph. I want to oppose these rules in my photography in order to create inexplicable and surreal landscapes that force the viewer to directly challenge the way in which they perceive the world around them.
