Course Descriptions

Introduction to Trades Technology

Grade: 9 -12 Credit: 0.5 Practical Art Length: Semester

Prerequisite: none

Course Description: Interested in developing your general employment skills while also trying out a variety of trades? This course is designed to expose students to various trades areas where there is a projected shortages of skilled workers. This course will explore the trades areas of floor laying, masonry, welding, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, small engine mechanics, precision machinery, and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning). This is a hands-on lab class whereby students will get a chance to gain an understanding and feeling for each of the trades. This class will help you decide on which trade you may want to pursue as a career or will give you the knowledge needed to be a homeowner. This course is recommended for students who are interested in owning a home or working in a trades area.

Introduction to Wood Technology

Grade: 9 -12 Credit: 0.5 Practical Art Length: Semester

Prerequisite: none

Course Description: This course provides information about wood and the production of wood products through the safe use of hand and power tools that are commonly found in industry. The course will offer the student as opportunity to construct projects that may be taken home upon completion.

Advanced Wood Technology

Grade: 9 -12 Credit: 0.5 Practical Art Length: Semester

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Intro to Wood Technology

Course Description: This course provides a place for a student who has shown skills and abilities in wood production technology to enhance and advance those skills and abilities to a broader and higher level. The course will involve making fine furniture and complex projects. Project materials will be supplied up to $25 per project.
