We believe that Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) is a vital part of preparing our students for life. We are committed to providing a comprehensive and age-appropriate RSHE curriculum that empowers students to make informed and healthy choices, build positive relationships, and navigate the complexities of the modern world.
Our RSHE programme aims to equip students with the knowledge, understanding, and skills they need to:
Develop healthy relationships: This includes understanding different types of relationships, building respectful and positive connections, recognising and managing conflict, and understanding consent and healthy boundaries.
Maintain physical and mental wellbeing: We cover topics such as physical health, emotional wellbeing, mental health awareness, stress management, healthy lifestyles, and the impact of lifestyle choices.
Understand sexual health and development: Students learn about puberty, reproduction, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, and where to access support and information. This is delivered in an age-appropriate and sensitive manner.
Navigate the online world safely: We address online safety, including cyberbullying, online relationships, the impact of social media, and strategies for staying safe online.
Develop self-esteem and confidence: RSHE helps students to develop a positive sense of self, understand their own identity, and build confidence in their own abilities.
Promote equality and respect: We explore diversity, equality, and respect, challenging stereotypes and promoting inclusion for all.
We deliver our RSHE curriculum through a variety of methods to ensure engagement and understanding. At Key Stage 3, students receive dedicated RSHE lessons on a fortnightly basis. At Key Stage 4, RSHE is delivered through dedicated drop-down days, allowing for more focused and in-depth exploration of key topics. In addition to these dedicated sessions, RSHE themes are also reinforced and explored through assemblies, tutor time activities such as Votes for Schools, and House competitions, creating a consistent and supportive learning environment.
By providing high-quality RSHE, we believe we are helping our students to:
Make informed decisions: Equipping them with the knowledge to make healthy and safe choices about their relationships, sexual health, and overall wellbeing.
Develop essential life skills: Building skills in communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, and decision-making.
Stay safe and healthy: Protecting themselves from harm, both online and offline.
Build positive relationships: Fostering respectful and healthy relationships with others.
Become responsible and active citizens: Preparing them to contribute positively to society.
We believe that RSHE is crucial for the personal development and wellbeing of our students, and we are dedicated to delivering a programme that meets their needs and prepares them for the challenges and opportunities of the future. We also work in partnership with parents and carers to ensure that RSHE is delivered in a way that complements the values and beliefs of our community.
