SEND at Beacon Academy
Intent
Parents who chose the Beacon Academy will not be disappointed with the high quality of teaching and learning their child receives from 2-11yrs. We believe that every teacher is a teacher of every child, including those with SEND. We are highly dedicated in providing inclusion in every area of learning for all children. Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) support is provision that is additional to, or different from, that generally made for others of the same age. This means provision goes beyond the differentiated approaches and learning arrangements routinely provided, as part of high quality, personalised teaching. It may take the form of additional support from within the Academy, or require the involvement of specialist staff or support services.
Through our quality first teaching, planning and provision we:
Ensure that needs are identified as early as possible and support is put in place
Ensure that children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum which is appropriately differentiated to enable children to succeed
Provide an accessible learning environment which is tailored to the needs of all pupils
Develop children’s independence
Regularly monitor the progress of children with SEND
Work closely with parents and carers
Work closely with external agencies and other professionals to ensure that there is a collaborative approach to support children with SEND
Implementation
At Beacon Academy, every teacher is a teacher of SEND. We strive to ensure that all pupils with SEND get the support they require.
Pupils with SEND will:
Be included in all aspects of the school day
Be provided with quality first teaching, adapted to meet their needs
Have targets set and have regular reviews of their progress
Pupils with SEND may:
Have specific 1:1 or group support to support them accessing different areas of the curriculum
Have interventions outside of the classroom
Use additional resources and practical equipment to support their learning
Take part in social, emotional and mental health interventions such as ELSA, Counselling and Boxall
Receive additional support and recommendations from outside agencies such as the Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Autism Outreach Team, Specialist Teaching Service.
