A grade of B+ in Chinese 10 Language and Literature / or a grade of B- in Chinese Language and Literature Honors, or a placement test for those new to the program.
This is the first of a two-year Honors program for eleventh graders who are native or near-native speakers. It is designed to prepare students for the IB Chinese Language and Literature exam. Language and Literature is a Group 1 course, and the program followed is prescribed by the International Baccalaureate Organization. The model for Language A. Language and Literature is the same at Standard Level and Higher Level, but there are significant quantitative and qualitative differences between the levels.
The aims of the Language A. Language and Literature course are: to introduce students to a range of texts from different periods, styles and genres; to develop in students the ability to engage in close, detailed analysis of individual texts and make relevant connections; and to develop the students’ powers of expression, both in oral and written communication. Through the study of texts, students are encouraged to broaden their horizons, to develop a greater appreciation for different perspectives of people from other cultures, and to think creatively and critically. It also encourages students’ interest in and desire for learning. The assessment is aligned with the IBO assessment criteria. Predictions are based on Paper 1 and Paper 2 tests and mocks, oral presentations and written tasks.
