Prerequisite:

Successful completion of ESL 4, ESL 1 and/or appropriate score on the Middle School test for returning students, or an appropriate score on the ACS Athens Placement Test for new students.

Course Description:

This is a flexible course for students with an upper-intermediate to advanced level of English proficiency who require further development of their academic language usage or who aim to prepare for the IELTS Academic exam. Students will develop higher academic vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, listening and oral skills. Combined with language development, media literacy and skills transferable to core subjects will be sharpened. Students will also engage in literary analysis and independent research. Focus is placed on demonstrating proficiency in the use of academic language in all four domains with an emphasis on fine-tuning the writing process and creating compositions that demonstrate proficiency in academic writing. The course corresponds to the B2+ towards C1 level of CEFR.
