Autism Spectrum Condition

Autism Outreach Service - The Autism Outreach Service is a small team of teaching and support staff with specialist knowledge and experience in the field of Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). They are part of the staff team at Orchard Brae School, supporting our colleagues in the mainstream nursery, primary and secondary educational sectors across Aberdeen City.

Aberdeen Autism Strategy - The new strategy and action plan runs from 2019 to 2022 and is a strategy for all age groups across Aberdeen City. The strategy reiterates the vision of the Scottish Strategy for Autism and the action plan focusses on meaningful and sustainable changes to improve outcomes for autistic people in Aberdeen City.

Dyslexia

Dyslexia Outreach Service (DOS) - The Dyslexia Outreach Service website is a source of support and information for teachers, parents and pupils.

Aberdeen City Council have recently updated their dyslexia Dyslexia Guidelines , which are aimed at school staff supporting children and young people with literacy difficulties. There is also a short video for families prepared by one our Educational Psychologists.

ASN & Outreach Service

ASN & Outreach Service - The service provides support to children/young people, families and practitioners across Aberdeen City's early learning and childcare settings and schools. Their website aims to be a central information hub with a wide range of information and links to support families and staff.


The outreach service is split into the following 6 areas:

Family and Wellbeing Support

Fit Like? Family Wellbeing Hubs - Part of the ASN & Outreach Service, the ‘Fit like? Family Wellbeing Hubs are a group of services working together to support children and young people’s mental wellbeing. They work with families across the city offering practical and emotional support from their three Hubs in Northfield, Torry and Tillydrone.


They can help with:

  • Finance and benefits

  • Family relationships and communication

  • Coping with daily pressures

  • Promoting positive emotional and mental wellbeing

  • Talking about traumatic things that have happened

Placing Requests and Specialist Provisions

If you have recently moved to Aberdeen City or want to request a place in a different Aberdeen City school, please visit the applying for a school place page. If you're child has additional support needs, and the advice of the Educational Psychology Service is required, you will be asked to provide consent for our involvement.

You do not need to contact the Educational Psychology Service directly.

If your child is currently open to the Educational Psychology Service you can contact the appropriate locality team using the email address below. To find out which locality you should contact, please use the locality of your child's zoned secondary school or ASG (see below). To find out your zoned secondary school you can use the school catchment areas map.

If your child is not currently known to the service, please speak to your child's school in the first instance. We meet regularly with all schools and schools are able to raise concerns or ask questions about any unamed and uknown pupils and their additional support needs. Schools have to get your verbal consent before they speak with us. If your child is not yet enrolled in a school please see the Aberdeen City Council pages on school enrolment. Apply for a school place | Aberdeen City Council . EP input is coordinated by staff within the Education Department for pupils who are new to the authority.
