Course Description:
S3 woodworking takes place 2 periods per week. The vast majority of the course involves the pupils developing their woodworking skills in the workshop. Although the theory side of the subject is of equal importance the focus of the S3 course is on skill development.
Pupils are given the opportunity to learn how to use various hand tools for marking & cutting different wood joints. Various models are produced throughout the year to cover a wide range of joining techniques.
Pupils are also introduced to several pieces of machinery which they need to be able to use correctly, confidently & safely at different stages in a project.
Assessment:
Pupils models are assessed in line with SQA procedures and our aim is to develop pupil skills from Level 3 through Level 4 by the end of the course. If successful this will ensure pupils to are ready to embark on a National 5 course if they choose to do this in S4.
At present there is no written assessment in the S3 course.
