Ukulele 1

In this level of Ukulele study, you will learn some basic melodies and your first scales. You may move at your own pace, but you must master each song before moving on to the next.

1. 5-Note Scale

This is your first short scale. Like all scales, you'll see both the fingering numbers (String #: Fret #) and note names to help you out. If you have any trouble figuring out the notes in the upcoming songs, use this scale as your guide.

2. Hot Cross Buns

No more hints on this one! Check back to the 5-note scale if you need help!

3. Mary Had a Little Lamb

4. C Major Scale

This is your first full major scale! Again, I've provided fingerings and note names to help you out.

5. Frère Jacques

This song is a round. Once you know it well, try it as a round. You can either find a classmate to play with, or you can play with the recording. Start the recording, and you begin playing (at the start of the song) when the recording gets to the #2. Or do the same with a classmate!

6. Jingle Bells

You'll notice the chords shown here- after you learn the melody (notes) for this song, try playing the chords. If you have a classmate who knows this song, you could play melody/chords with each other. Or play along with the video!

7. When the Saints Go Marching In

Again, try the chords for this song.

8. Ode to Joy

This is the theme from Beethoven's 9th Symphony.

Congratulations on completing Ukulele 1!

STOP HERE! Do not go on to Ukulele 2 until you've mastered all these songs!
