Session 15: Student Presentations and Final Papers

Class Process

Students are asked to make a short (about 5-minute) presentations (maximum) on their final paper. Prepare three slides (one for each section of the report). While time will vary with the number of students in class, each short presentation will be followed by a 5-10 minute class discussion. A time-keeper will be used to enforce these time limits, otherwise we will not be able to hear and discuss everyone’s report.

Final Paper Assignment

Write a paper that addresses a major problem or issue in OMT or that makes sense of a real-world problem or issue using the major OMT perspectives covered in this course. The paper should include three sections:

  • Section 1. Describe a concrete problem or issue, and present a specific question that you will address (in 2 pages or less).

  • Section 2. Select two OMT perspectives that you think are most useful for addressing the question.

    • Sections 2a- 2b. Use a subsection (of no more than 2 pages) to argue how each perspective addresses and answers your question.

  • Section 3. Assess insights and blind spots in your answers (in 2 pages or less):

    • 3a. What have you learned about your problem or issue from each perspective?

    • 3b. What aspects of your question could not be addressed with your OMT theories? How will you address them?
