It was an excellent meet! Let's start with the girls. Note: We raced in the more competitive "Seeded" Divisions, which took the top teams from all classifications.
The team average improved by 1:51 compared to last year!
Most improved compared to last year goes to Avery with a huge 1:53 improvement! Ella knocked 1:31 off her 2021 time and Adaline a big 52 seconds. Compared to Battle Mountain, we had huge improvements. Chloe improved by 3:38, Paige by 2:33, Adaline by 2:10 and Claire by 2:10. All eight girls that raced both improved by over a minute.
Ella had an entertaining battle at the front before being out kicked in the stadium for a second place finish. Lauren contributed greatly to the team's improved result with a super strong 14th place finish.
We jumped up in the 4A State rankings! Ella is currently ranked #1 and Lauren #15. Lauren is the #1 Freshmen, Darby is 39th and Claire 46th. Way to go Freshmen girls! Avery and Cece are the 31st and 36th Sophomores. Adaline is the #19 Junior. Paige is the 42nd Senior. And we still haven't raced on a super fast course.
Ella and Lauren have the top 3 SHS times ever at the Stampede and Adaline enters as #9! The girls ran 6 of the top 17 SHS times ever at the Stampede.
We are currently the second fastest team in our region. If we keep working hard, the chances of qualifying for State look good!
The team average improved by 46 seconds over last year!
Most improved from 2021 to 2022 goes to Dom. His 40 second improvement and sound racing tactics led to a thrilling .5 second win over Will Brunner of Battle Mountain. Dom also set the new meet record! Landon bounced back from last week with a big 2:15 improvement and Gavin was close at 1:54.
In the 4A State rankings Dom is now #1 and Josh #20! Two of our fabulous Freshmen are in the top 50 for the class of 2026, with Carter at #21 and Cain at #32. Josh is the #4 Sophomore. Joining Dom at the top of the Senior rankings is Zach at #27 and Landon at #42.
Dom has the top 3 SHS times ever at the Stampede. Josh joins him in the top 5. The boys ran 4 of the top 19 SHS times ever at the Stampede.
In the regional rankings we are currently #2, close behind Eagle Valley. But Battle Mountain did not run Porter Middaugh due to a slight illness. If he was healthy and ran, they would likely jump us. Central Grand Junction hasn't yet run a 5k race and Conifer isn't far behind us. So qualifying for State is still very much in question!

Final notes: Both teams were originally ranked 5th, but I think the timing service incorrectly scored displacing and non-scoring runners. In the final results we got edged by a point each into 6th. Only 5A Fairview and 4A Summit had two teams in the top 6 of the Seeded division.
