How to Sign Up for a Library Card Online
We are lucky to live in a time where many of our public libraries have an online presence! Our public libraries even allow us to sign up for a library card online!
NOTE: These instructions are being written during California’s Shelter in Place order. Public libraries are currently closed, but their digital materials are still available! The instructions below will be specific to obtaining a temporary card number to access the library’s online materials during this time.
Instructions:
Begin on the library homepage.
Navigate to the right hand corner of the screen where you see an orange button labeled My Account. Click on that button.
You will be taken to the library sign-in page. Look above the sign-in information where you will see a link to register for a library card. Click on the link.
NOTE: Select “OK” on the pop-up menu that appears to confirm you are 13 or older.
Select your home library. (This is the library closest to your current address!) Enter your postal code. Select your city on the next page.
You will be taken to the registration page. Input the information and Submit.
NOTE: You will be required to select Y/N from a drop-down menu titled Allow Special Noticing by FSCPL. This is a nonprofit organization called Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries and they support/advocate for the libraries here. If you agree, they will be able to contact you about news, etc. You can find out more information HERE.
The pacreg code you are given can be used to access the library’s digital materials, such as eBooks and audiobooks.
The libraries have temporarily suspended the practice of emailing them to receive a permanent library card number. You can use the digital materials with your pacreg code.
However, you will need to contact them once the threat of the virus lessens and the libraries open to receive your permanent card number to continue using the e-resources.
