Vendor donation opportunity for proposed International RCT

Post date: Jun 11, 2014 4:8:31 PM

RTWB is reaching out to the Respiratory Therapy vendor community for assistance with the proposed EPAP trial for High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE).

Background

Fall 2013: RTWB in collaboration with Himalayan Rescue Association (RTWB Healthcare Education Partner) successfully used CPAP therapy on 8 HAPE cases. Physician interview: http://youtu.be/hXRAo0FmRQU (Special thanks to Coastal Sleep for the donated CPAP unit)

We hope to improve the standard of care for these patients given the challenges of working at altitude (ie. reducing energy consumption as running an oxygen concentrator leaves the clinic without electricity until the next bright sunny day and a tank of oxygen runs US$500.00)

Proposed EPAP setup: http://youtu.be/93ysXRN3qPo.

We are looking to create 10 identical systems for this study. The proposed write up will be shared with those genuinely interested via email. We are in the process of acquiring International Research Council approval for an international multi-centred randomized control trial.

How can you help?

1. 10 EPAP setups: parts/connectors (2 per site)

2. 10 Portable oxygen concentrators (2 per site)

3. 5 Portable pulse oximeters (1 per site)

Thank you for your interest. Please contact Eric(at)rtwb.ca if you are interested in helping out
