Himalayan Rescue Association - Pheriche update

Post date: Mar 07, 2014 3:54:28 PM

The last season (Fall 2013) RTWB donated a CPAP unit from Coastal Sleep to the Himalayan Rescue Association in the Kathmandu head office. It was used by volunteer physicians to treat respiratory distress at the high altitude clinic. (Dr. Kanaan interview).

High Altitude Pulmonary Edema is a complex pathophysiology requiring more research into the balance between oxygen and pressure used for treatment. RTWB is working with volunteer physicians to create a randomized control trial to be carried out at with Healthcare Education Partner HRA in the near future. During the 2014 Spring season, the CPAP device will be used at the Pheriche Clinic again.
