3rd GRADE
In 3rd grade, learners will focus on transitioning to the upper elementary school. At this time, they focus on developing greater self-awareness in their emotions, identifying the "size" of different problems, and practicing problem-solving strategies. Learners will also explore relationship skills and understanding differences between individuals. Students will also focus on executive functioning skills, goal-setting, and utilize a wellness plan to build self-care skills.
Some of the specific ACP opportunities that all 3rd-grade learners will engage in include:
Transitions: Learners will be introduced to their school counselor, and explore various ways that their counselor can support them during their time at Horizon Elementary
CARE: Learners will explore various ways that they can care for themselves and be introduced to a survey that they will fill out regularly as they reflect on their self-care and wellness
Self-Management - Problem Solving: Learners will be introduced to a framework for helping them determine how urgent a problem is, and focus on how you respond differently to problems of different "size" (urgency)
Self-Management - Problem Solving: Learners will explore and practice different ways that you can solve problems
Self-Management - Executive Functioning - An Overview: Learners will be introduced to executive functioning, what types of skills are executive functions, and why these types of skills help us be successful
Self-Management - Executive Functioning - Being Organized: Learners will explore their different learning spaces at school and learn different strategies for keeping these spaces organized
Self-Management - Executive Functioning - Organization Boot Camp: Learners will apply the different strategies they learned to practice organizing different learning spaces
Responsible Decision Making - Goal-Setting: Learners will review what makes a goal a "SMART" goal
Relationship Skills 101: Learners will explore and discuss proactive and healthy ways to interact with each other
Self-Awareness - Emotion Management 101: Learners will focus on identifying various emotions within themselves, and identify ways that they can manage their feelings
Self-Management - Coping Skills Cafe: Learners will build their self-care toolbox by practicing different coping skills that they can use to regulate their emotions
Self- Management-Test Taking Escape Room: Learners will practice their problem-solving and coping skills
Self-Awareness - Careers 101 (Parts I and II): Learners will investigate different types of careers
How Parents Can Get Involved in ACP at School
Discuss how your child is performing on standardized tests and in course standards
Attend Parent-Teacher Conferences
Engage in discussions with your child about their strengths and interests, and how these connect to different classes and careers
Know the goals that your child has set
Discuss online safety with your child, and encourage them to speak to you if they see or hear something that doesn't seem right to them
Discuss how you recognize different emotions in yourself, and what types of strategies you like to use when you feel different emotions
