Gregory Greenleaf ggreenleaf@msad51.org
Though you may read any work of fiction you'd like, my preference is that you
read one of the books listed in the Q3 2025 exam question. See sets 1 and 2.
For the list of books, click here. Scroll to the Q3 lists.
To get the books listed in Q3, you have a few options: visit a library and borrow a physical or digital copy, visit a used book store, or buy it new.
We will read Kindred and Frankenstein in class, so it's up to you if you want to read it once without my guidance or wait to read it together during the school year.
If you have any questions, email me at ggreenleaf@msad51.org
Have a nice summer!
Please read the following pages from our review book.
This material we will start the year out with and have a test in the first few weeks of school. I would recommend you take notes over the material.
Also watch this video that goes over all the concepts in Unit 1. This video is more than you need to know for the test, but Mr. Clifford is a great resource for all kinds of videos for this class. We will use many throughout the year.

Please read two works:
1. Junichiro Tanizaki's A Cat, A Man, & Two Women (just the title story, pages 3-99).
As you read, mostly just enjoy, but you could also take some light, relaxed notes about the characters, who are (you guessed it!) a cat, a man, and two women (along with a few other secondary characters). You might keep a list of motives/interests for the five main characters (the cat, the man, the two women, the man’s mother). 🐈⬛
2. Nawal el Saadawi’s Woman at Point Zero.
Again, as you read, mostly just take it in, but you might jot down the main plot points of Firdaus, the narrator, of the central, long chapter. She has a series of experiences, and keeping a note of each one is helpful. Also maybe start to notice motifs. You’ll be more ready to capture them on your second reading.
Maybe flag some pages where there are passages or occurrences of interest, or where questions arise for you. 👁️
Be ready to discuss upon your return in the fall!
