CITING AN EMAIL OR PERSONAL MESSAGE IN DIGITAL FORM

Post date: May 6, 2015 1:55:10 PM

How do you cite information or quotations from a message sent digitally? If it's an email, a Facebook message, or any other direct person to person social media message (as opposed to a public Tweet, Instagram or Facebook post), use the format below (or choose "E-Mail" from EasyBib.com's 59 Other Options Menu):

Name of Person who sent the message. "Title of message or subject line from message." Message to [Name of person who received the message]. Date sent. Format (Email, Facebook Message, etc).

Example:

Msburroughs, Friend O. "Cell Phone Policies at My School." Message to Hannah Burroughs. 4 May 2015. E-mail.

Thanks to Faith P for the great question that inspired this Citation Stumper post!
