1. Think in parts: theme, image, character, literary device, genre
2. Know the author: their life, their works, the time period in which they lived
3. Know the work: READ IT! And if it's been a while since you read it, review it. Briefly outline the chapters, list the characters, create your own Spark Notes for it.
1. In the Library Catalog, try searching the name of the work you are researching. You will find the actual novel, but you will also find any books that are about that work. Try adding the word "critical" to your keyword search.
2. Try searching the category of literature you are researching:
American Literature, American Writers, British Literature, British Writers, Hispanic Literature, etc.
3. Browse the 810s and 820s in Reference or Nonfiction
