Online News Aggregators:

  • Knowhere: Presents breaking news stories and identifies them as right, left, or center. Includes links to various news outlets covering each story.

  • Allsides: Identifies the "Media Bias" in every news story, classifying breaking news as right, left, or center.

Key Vocabulary:

  • Editorial or Opinion or OpEd: An article that is submitted to a news outlet by an individual with a specific point of view, opinion, or agenda. Also: opinion pieces written by the editorial staff of the news outlet that espouse a particular point of view.

  • Column: An article written by a staff member of the news outlet that does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the rest of the staff of that outlet. Expresses a particular point of view, opinion, or agenda.

  • Advertisement: Can be presented to appear as news, but is paid for by an individual or organization and expresses their agenda, point of view, or opinion.
