Our Primary 3 and Primary 5 Anthonians took to the Native Garden to learn more about some of our local plants. Our little botanists got their hands dirty - observing, smelling and touching various parts of the plants.
Through such hands-on learning approach, our pupils were immersed into nature, experiencing first-hand the diversity of the natural eco-system. The first part of the experience included a teacher-guided tour of the garden. Our pupils were introduced to the plants and their various parts. Through this tour, they saw that there were different types of plants, with different types of parts. The pupils also got to observe the animals (namely ants and caterpillars) at work in the garden. They saw how these animals relied on plants for food (leaves and nectar) and shelter. It was an eye-opener for the pupils when they saw how their textbook came alive through this experience.
In the second part of the lesson, our little botanists had to scan the QR code of each plant with their iPads in order to access information on the plants and complete a crossword puzzle. The lesson was without doubt a memorable and enjoyable one for the pupils.
