Also known as the National Flower of Singapore, the Vanda Miss Joaquim is a hybrid of two different plants known as Vanda hookeriana and Vanda teres. It was successfully crossbred by a horticulturist known as Agnes Joaquim in the 1890s.
Leaves
The Vanda Miss Joaquim has distinct cylindrical terete (pencil-like) leaves that are thin.
Flowers
The flowers of the Vanda Miss Joaquim are white, light pink and purple with a bright orange middle.
Fruits
The plant produces dry fruits that look like capsules. When ripe, the fruits will split open and allow the seeds to be dispersed by the wind. Each fruit contains more than 20 seeds.
