Leaves
The plant has either lanced shaped leaves or lobed shaped leaves. A same plant produce both types of leaves. They have a serrate edge.
Flowers
The plant has white flowers with a red spot in the centre. They have a fleshy and bright red calyx (protective layer) that encloses the base of the flower.
Pollination
By animals (insects)
Fruits
Roselles are best plucked when the calyces (the petal-like parts of a roselle) are cheerfully red with a waxy appearance, but the interior capsule is green. As the calyces ripen, they go from green to red, and lastly become shrunken and dark. Each capsule releases many brown wrinkled seeds when the fruit becomes dry.
Seed Dispersal
The seeds are dispersed by explosive action. When the fruit dries up, it will split open. This splitting action causes the seeds to be scattered some distance away from the parent plant.
