In compliance with revised federal reporting mandates from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB Control No. 1830-0027), LACES has removed the Non-Binary and No Answer columns from NRS Table 2 beginning with Fiscal Year 2024–25.
While Non-Binary and No Answer are available in states that opted to keep them, only Male and Female are reported for federal compliance. For questions about gender options in your state, contact your state agency.
If Non-Binary or No Answer is selected, LACES assigns Male or Female using a standard distribution method for reporting purposes only. This does not change how gender is stored or displayed elsewhere in the system.
These changes were approved on April 17, 2025, and are effective with Release 2025.9.
Prior fiscal years (e.g., 2023–24) retain the full four-category breakdown (Male, Female, Non-Binary, No Answer) for historical and audit purposes.
NRS Table 2: Participants by Age, Ethnicity, and Sex
Table 2 is fiscal year–based. To appear on Table 2, students must:
Have at least one Period of Participation (PoP) during the fiscal year
Be age 16 or older at time of intake (some states may require higher minimum age)
The total in column AD on Table 2 should match totals on:
Tables 1, 3, and 4
Table 6: Employment and Highest Degree Level Completed sections
TIP: If the employment and education totals on Table 6 do not match the totals on Tables 1, 2, 3, and 4, run the Student Diagnostic search to find students who are missing employment or education information in their LACES records.
