Guiding Principles
In life, we are each responsible for living with the consequences of our good and poor choices; therefore, we have one all-encompassing rule in our classroom:
"Make choices and accept the consequences."
As a teacher, I am entrusted with the well-being of your children. Therefore, our first guiding principle addresses safety. Our school rules round out the rest of our guiding principles, since they maximize successful learning. The graphic on the right is the same one hanging on our classroom wall and lists our expectations. My classroom management system is designed to reward good choices and redirect poor ones.
Four Focuses
When my daughters and I were involved with Karate, we were expected to focus our eyes, ears, body, and mind. These are great expectations to have for any learning environment!
Classroom Community
Creating a classroom community is vital to the process of learning. As a body of 20+ people, we operate as a family does to carry out classroom jobs, learn through experience, find fun in what we do, and resolve conflicts. In my opinion, a classroom community is most effective when students:
care about themselves and others,
contribute ideas to the group,
collaborate with one another,
cooperate (and listen) to each other, and
celebrate learning.
We will strive each and every day to make this happen.
?Jeffco Public Schools Conduct Code
"The Conduct Code is designed to promote safety through high standards of behavior, and it is important that you and your student become familiar with our district policies. The Conduct Code includes all Jeffco Schools policies related to student conduct and discipline. There are serious consequences for breaking rules of conduct, and these consequences are outlined in the Conduct Code. These policies include legal terms in order to make sure that we are precise and meet the requirements of state law."
Please review the Conduct Code as a family.
