Hiring Assistants and Volunteer Coaches

Posting Process

  1. Inform the Activities Director of you need to hire an assistant.

  2. The Activities Director will post the position on the Bloomington Public Schools Employment page and the St. Cloud State EdPost website. Other sites and methods will be used as needed.

  3. The position must be posted for a minimum of 5 days, and typically until filled.

  4. All applicants must complete an online application on the Bloomington Public Schools employment page.

  5. The head coach will conduct the interviews and bring the recommendation to the Activities Director.

  6. After the AD has received the recommendation, the AD will meet with the candidate before the hire is finalized.

Human Resources Process

  1. Have new hire contact Human Resources (Kristine Berg 952-681-6440 or kberg@isd271.org) to set up an appointment. Please see attached ‘New Hire Orientation’ letter from HR regarding necessary steps to follow. All new hires will need to complete a background check. Please bring this BCA background paperwork to the HR appt. All HR paperwork must be completed before working with students and before a contract can be paid.

  2. Provide coaching contract information (dollar amount to be paid and who is responsible for covering the cost…booster club or district) to Amy Steffen so a contract can be processed.

  3. The Activities Dept. will notify the new hire when their contract is ready to be signed.

  4. All hires are contingent on passing a background check.

Volunteer Coaches

  1. All volunteer coaches must complete the "Volunteer Coach Packet" that is found below. The volunteer coach should fill out the packet and bring it to Amy Steffen in the activities office along with a $15 check made out to "ISD 271" for the background check.

    1. Volunteer Coaches must also complete all necessary MSHSL Coach Clipboard requirements.

  • If new hires or volunteer coaches have not completed the necessary paper work they will not be allowed to coach.
