Family and Consumer Sciences
Family & Consumer Sciences is an applied field of study in that it offers solutions to issues faced by individuals, families and communities.
Family and Consumer Sciences classes prepare students to improve the global society through a life span perspective and with an applied focus on individual, family and community development, nutrition and health, consumer studies, apparel and textiles and culinary arts.
The Family and Consumer Sciences department at Smith Middle School currently offers courses in interior design, fashion and technology; understanding young children with an emphasis on child development and safe child care practices; financial literacy and career exploration; and foods and nutrition with an emphasis on food preparation skills and developing a healthy lifestyle.

Technology Education
Technology Education classes prepare students for a 21st century learning environment by integrating math, science, engineering, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills into hands-on courses. The courses require students to apply learning on a daily basis.
The learning environments at the school are equipped with digital resources as well as lab-based classrooms. Students are provided with tools to design, hypothesize, construct, create and test various models, projects, and inventions.
The Technology department at Smith Middle School currently offers courses that include learning experiences in the fields of computer graphics, coding/robotics, web design, manufacturing, construction, invention, engineering, and aerodynamics.
