Auditions and Rehearsal Information
Auditions Nov. 29-30, 2023
Posted below are some of the audition materials and information (the dance video will be posted after the audition).
Two vocal options (must choose one that fits your vocal range): Look at Me I'm Sandra Dee or Greased Lightning
Two example monologues (can use either one, or one of your own - should be no longer than 90 seconds) - regardless of the monologue you use, please have it MEMORIZED, and please consider auditioning with a character voice/personality that could be used in the musical. For example, think stereotypes - jock, overly peppy, too cool for school, dumb student, nerdy student, absent-minded professor, scatterbrained secretary, etc.
The Show
On Feb 15-17, 2024, Smoky Hill HS Theater will be presenting Grease, named after the 1950s United States working-class youth subculture known as “greasers”. The musical is set in 1959 at the fictional Rydell High School. The musical follows ten working-class teenagers as they navigate the complexities of peer pressure, politics, personal core values, and love.
Auditions: Be prepared with a one to two minute monologue of your choice (preferably modern, and should be memorized). For those who have not auditioned before, there will be options for cold readings, and pre-selected monologues at the workshops on Tuesday.
Vocal Auditions: Vocal audition music will be posted online, and will be reviewed at the workshops.
Call Backs: Be prepared for Call Backs on Friday, Dec. 1, after school. Cast lists will be posted by Mon. Dec. 4 on the drama Call Board and on the SHHSdrama.com website.
Auditions Check-In: There will be a sign up list for your audition slot. Complete the Audition Info Form online, and check-in near the Green Room ten minutes prior to your audition slot after school on your audition day. (The Green Room is the performing arts hallway entrance to the auditorium.) Auditions slots will run until 6:00 pm. Bring a photo (or we can photocopy your student ID or take a picture of you) and a résumé of performance experience if you have one!
Rehearsals: Rehearsals will be held Monday-Friday 3:30-6:00 PM beginning Dec. 5 through Friday Feb. 16, all-day Saturday Feb. 10 and evenings from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM the entire week of the show, Feb. 12 - 17. It is imperative that you have no rehearsal conflicts and can commit to 99% of rehearsal times. No rehearsals during Winter Break.
Rehearsal Schedule
December 5 - February 16, Monday - Friday
after school until 6:00 pm
Saturday, February 10 – all day
February 12-17 – Evenings until 9:30 pm
Tech Crew and Stage Help: A tech crew is needed for lighting, sound, props, scenery and other techie stuff. There will be a tech sign-up list posted December 5 and application forms online for those interested.
Tech crew will have the same schedule as the rehearsal schedule.
Contract
The Production Contract, Code of Conduct and Safety Letter (Tech) are due on or before the first rehearsal or meeting!
Fees
Try to have the Cast or Tech Fee in by the Semester Break. You can now pay online with no additional fees through the Smoky Hill website.
