Thirteen Smoky students attended the State Theatre Conference December 2021, with all 10 students who competed in acting, musical theatre or technical theatre competitions scoring an “Excellent” rating or above from the state judges!

Awards and Recognition 2012-2013

Some Good News from the Smoky Drama Department from the 2012-2013 school year!

Smoky Hill was nominated for seven of seventeen categories for high school theatre, and won two.  The award ceremony, called the Bobby G Awards, was Thursday May 30, 2013 at the DCPA. Meaghan Johnson, a graduating senior, won best supporting actress, for her role in Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Steven Cross, in the CCSD printing services, won best graphic design for his poster design!

                                                      

Thoroughly Modern Millie, the Smoky musical, was nominated for several other awards, including Best Choreography, Best Chorus, Best Supporting Actor - Matt Laughlin, Best Musical Production and Best Costumes.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION 2008-2011

The Smoky Hill Drama Department presented West Side Story at the Colorado Thespian Conference in the Wells Fargo Theatre downtown Denver in December 2011!

In the Aurora Sentinel Best of the Best 2010 issue, the Smoky Hill Drama Department won two Reader's Choice Awards:  Best Theatrical Production for "Footloose" and Best Local Actress, Suzanna Champion.  Go Buffs!

Suzanna Champion - Cast in Colorado's First All-State Show The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Dec 3-4, 2010, at Mtn Vista HS and Dec 9 at the State Thespian Conference. 

In June 2009, the Smoky Hill Drama program's musical production of All Shook Up was named the Aurora Sentinel's Readers' Choice for Best Theatrical Performance.  Smoky's Josh Rigo and Suzanna Champion were voted the Readers' Choice for Best Actor and Actress. Congrats to these Smoky Hill Thespians!
