Shane J. named Field Event Performer of the Meet!

The boys team surprised many around the county with a 4th place finish!!! The team improved on their 7th place finish indoors and scored in a wide variety of events, allowing them to finish with 47 points.

The team was led by Shane J.’s 14 points, with a win in the discus and a 4th place in the shot put. Shane had been struggling with an ankle injury, but stepped up and got healthy at the perfect time. Joining Shane to score big for the team were fellow seniors Tom D, 2nd in the mile in a PB 4:33, Jared H. with a 1′ PB in the pole vault, and Kevin D. with a PB of 15.2 in the HH, while seniors Bo W. and JT R. helped led the 4×1 team to a fourth place finish. Fellow relay mate, junior Eric C., also scored in the triple jump on a day where he also PB’ed in the long jump. The whole team rose to the occasion and performed beyond expectations.

The girls team also improved on their indoor finish, claiming 8th place, and will return every scoring athlete to next year’s team. Jamie E. once again led the charge scoring a 3rd and 4th place in the HH and IH, respectively. Jamie dipped under 17 seconds in the HH, with a 16.9. She also improved her TJ PB to 33′1.25″. Young field event athletes also helped the cause as frosh Marisabel Alonso tied for 6th in the HJ, and soph Jen K. finished 6th in the pentathlon, her first time in the 5 event competition. The girls JV DMR team of Palvi C., Rachel R., Kyla D., and Aly Y. won their race, foreshadowing a bright future. And the day ended with a seasonal best in the 4×800 relay with 3 girls hitting 2:30 or faster and a final time of 10:06. Tina M. , Caroline B., Marie V., and Lauren K. capped of an exciting meet for the girls who should be a force for years to come.
