The following are items that have been compiled from house meeting announcements, emails, etc.
There are two main house lists, called hip_house and hip_announce. They are for general announcements/discussion by everyone and for somewhat more important announcements by managers, respectively. Everyone is required to be subscribed to hip_announce and most people are on hip_house.
Kitchen
Cast-iron pans and woks should not soak in water, or else they will rust!
Label your boxes in the pantry and walk-in fridge. There is space in the freezer for personal food, but keep in mind that the freezer is relatively limited in size. Try to store only those things which you are sure to use, and not forget about.
Everyone should rinse plates/bowls/cups before putting them on the racks. If stuff is dried and caked on, soak it in water.
To request a late plate, write your name on a physical late plate along with whether you are a vegan or vegetarian, for the cooks to put food in.
Recycling
Reduce, reuse, recycle, and compost, in that order.
Reuse paper, bags, stuff in the free pile. In the laundry room, make sure to carefully distinguish between clothing that is part of the free pile and clothing that isn't.
Use the two-sided feature of our printer.
Compost soiled paper, pizza boxes, waxed cardboard, etc.; no human waste, feminine hygiene products, and the like.
Flatten your cardboard and take it to the dumpster outside.
Bottles and cans will be placed inside the fence until the night before they are picked up, to discourage noisy scavenging of our recyclable goods on our driveway.
Humor Shifts
Everyone owes two hours a semester of humor workshift, deemed payable to the social Manager. Historically, these have been two hours of pots / dishes to be done Friday and Saturday nights. However, recent discussion has allowed that one of those hours can be for weekend pots, and another for helping to set up or break down social events.
Security
It is not permitted to duplicate keys. Anyone found duplicating keys will will have their room locks changed and new keys issued at their expense.
If a break-in/trespassing happens, call the police and file a report!
Rooms
In your room should be a desk, chair (with black padded seat), bed (with both box spring and mattress), dresser and closet. If any of these things is missing or incomplete, please let the House Manager know by writing a note and placing it in the "House Manager" mailbox.
You may paint your room if you choose (see above for certain summer restrictions). (Of course, remember to protect the new carpet!) Please purchase replacement painting tools if you ruin the ones we have (e.g. by not rinsing them thoroughly). If you paint your room, you should donate $25 to the paint fund. We use the paint fund to purchase neutral colored paint to repaint the rooms for new residents.
